Why we made these books

Long before there were highways, there were stories. Of men who rowed across a frozen river on Christmas night. Of gold that was found once and never again. Of things with red eyes that wait on bridges. We gathered them into three books worthy of the legends themselves.

Book III · Dark Legends of America

America gets older at night.

On November 15, 1966, two young couples driving past the old munitions bunkers outside Point Pleasant, West Virginia, saw something standing in their headlights. It was taller than a man. It had wings. Its eyes were red.

Every legend in Dark Legends of America comes with a date, a place and the first record of it. The hoaxes are labeled as hoaxes. The rest you'll have to decide for yourself.

Book II · The Lost Legends of America

Gold that was found once. And never again.

When Jacob Waltz died in Phoenix in 1891, the old prospector the locals called the Dutchman left behind the story of a gold mine somewhere in the Superstition Mountains. People have been looking for it ever since.

The Lost Legends of America follows the treasures, tall tales, outlaws and mysteries that made the country, and for each one shows where the truth ends and the legend begins.
